The Best Comedy Film
Disclaimer: This is NOT my choice for Best Comedy Film. That would quite certainly be Monty Python’s Holy Grail, but as I’ve already chosen that one and my knowledge of funny films is terribly limited, I’m just going for the only non-Python thing that came to mind.
Supposedly a documentary about a rock band, the film is a superb satire of the entire industry. The boastful, wild, but naive band members, the over the top declarations and yarns, the reverential interviewers, the ‘iconic’ hits and so on… it’s all presented in a pseudo-serious manner (many rock stars allegedly couldn’t find anything funny about it), and it’s probably this subtlety that makes it good, along with the legendary lines, such as the one about their amps going up to 11, thus obviously being louder. It’s an iconic film already, wiki says it was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry…. and, well, it’s funny.
